Disillusioned

Disillusioned she stares straight ahead
And coats her lips with colour from the stick
Over and over and over
The colour coats
The colour spreads
The colour grows darker
Angrier
Maddening crazy
Spreading further than it’s meant to
Taking in more than lips
Coating her whole face
Circle by circle
Until she disappears under the shade of red
Until it gets in her eyes
On her hands
On her clothes
On the carpet
On the walls
She struggles to comprehend the evolution of this evening
And so gives up trying
And so she lies down
In her mess
To rest
To finally sleep
And dream of white knights, desert sands and dark moonlit skies.
